The Zune HD is rumored to be a full competitor to the iPod Touch, which coincidently has been on the market for almost a year and a half. Microsoft’s entrance to the market is typical when considering it’s late entrance with the iPod challenger — the original Zune. While the Zune had wifi features, and a larger screen than the iPods at the time, the wifi feature was never truly exploited to allow internet browsing. The Zune HD is rumored to allow full internet browsing using a dedicated internet explorer. Hopefully it will also allow for applications so the faster opera browser can be installed.

While this makes sense in a recession especially, the signal quality is less than perfect in many areas, so many people refuse to go completely wireless and only have cell phones.

Another trend in cell phones is VOIP, or Voice over internet protocol. While this is nothing new, as skype has been around for several years now, but now skype is available on the iphone as an application. Of course you can only use it on a wifi connection, however there have already been law suits and action requested by the FCC to force the skype iphone application to run on a 3G connection.

The interesting thing is that the reason that flash was not already present was because it is very computer intensive. Despite the iPhone’s powerful graphics card, it simply doesn’t cut it. Thus adobe and Apple are developing a midrange version of flash which will be optimized for the iPhone and possibly the iPod Touch.
